The Shoalhaven Superheroes ANZ Mobile Lending “Service & Beyond” Volunteer Awards aim is to provide a platform to showcase those Volunteers within the Shoalhaven, both individuals, groups and organisations, who have shown an outstanding commitment to helping the Shoalhaven community and those within it. These people & organisations are the Real Superheroes of the Shoalhaven.
This event, now in its 3rd year, has been an outstanding success to date. We encourage everyone to participate in this year’s event, by nominating a worthy recipient. ,

For over six years this selfless wonderful retired couple have looked after their community by raising over $80,000 through their Music Festival for local organisations such as Noahs Ark, Life without Barriers & Terrara Public School. They also donate the catering profits to The Starlight Foundation.
Wendy Woodward – The Nowra Show & Bravehearts
Wendy has long supported the Shoalhaven Community as a member and current President of the Nowra Show Society. She donates to many community causes and is the Shoalhaven face of the Bravehearts organisation, supporting & teaching kids about personal safety.

Karlene is a tireless volunteer in the community. from fundraising in the P&C at Havenlee School to holding Awareness and Fundraising events in the past 12 years for Breast Cancer & the McGrath Foundation. The Shoalhaven Youth Concert Band’s conductor Richard Hodge and all the other wonderful volunteer musicians, give their time to help the kids experience the joy of playing & performing as a group.
Bob is a 30+ years member of the Jervis Bay Lions Club who epitomises the word “volunteerism”. Whether selling raffle tickets & raising money or playing a rockin’ Santa for the kids, Bob goes above & beyond for anyone needing help.

Mikayla has supported individuals, charities, in school & SCC Youth Advisory, the PCYC and Nowra Youthies. Also, fundraising for the Cancer Council, Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Leukemia Foundation, Shoalhaven Homeless and Rotary’s “Fiji” Appeal, organised Surfing for the Disabled days & established a Zone Student Representative Council.

John Hurwood – Volunteer in Policing
For 18 years, a Volunteer in Policing – (VIP) based at Nowra Police Station clocking up a huge 8,380 hours, equivalent to 4.5 years of full time hours. Duties include helping out with administrative duties such as case filing, archiving to uniform ordering. He’s a gentleman who genuinely enjoys his role and is always up for a friendly chat.
Stephen & Ann Thomson – Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Brigade
Stephan has been Captain of the Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Brigade for around 20 years and Ann has been in the service for over 10 years. A fantastic couple who have dedicated themselves to service for the Shoalhaven Heads Community.
Over 250 volunteers and contributors were involved in the 2015 Shoalhaven Superheroes Festival, which incorporated Berry POP, Bomaderry POP, Nowra POP and Nowra Alive POP.
